Late 19th - early 20th centuries, the first with bulbous body, narrow mouth and twine handle, 11.5 in., twine split, remnants of wax (?) waterproofing; the second with a wide body, flaring mouth and (2) leather handles, 8 in., remnants of waterproofing coat.

The smaller basket has an old collection sticker on its base ascribing it to the H. M. Doerschuk Collection. Herbert M. Doerschuk was an amateur archaeologist involved with the celebrated Town Creek Mound (NC) excavations of the 1930s. Private deceased estate collection, Chapel Hill, NC.

Incredibly tight weave with untouched natural age patina.
