Oil on canvas laid on masonite, signed at lower right "Aba-Nov‡k," housed in the likely original frame. One of the great Hungarian modernists, Aba-Nov‡k studied in Budapest at the Art School and the College of Fine Arts. After his military service, he continued painting - spending three years at the Hungarian Academy in Rome before returning to Hungary. He is known for his bold expressionist palette and acceptance of the Italian Novecento ideas, both of which are recognizable in this painting likely completed in the first half of the 1930s.
