Formerly Giuseppe Castiglione (Italian, 1688 - 1766), goauche on paper, Chinese signature and two stamps in lower left margin. In gilt wooden frame, comes with 1967 invoice from a Kowloon antiques dealer. The artist came to China in 1715 as an Italian Jesuit missionary. His artistic talents and training, however, were recognized and led to a second career as painter to the Imperial Court.
