Oil on canvas, unsigned, housed in a very fine ornate (ca. 1850-1860) gilt frame with strapwork decoration to inner cove and outer "wreath of branches" and floral ornament, the verso bearing the stencil of Jones, Wooll, & Sutherland (manufacturers of portrait and picture frames in San Francisco, CA - see their advertisement in The British Colonist, vol. 3, no. 2, Dec. 15, 1859).
