Watercolor on paper depicting a wooded landscape, signed lower left " 1955 F.W. Roosevelt" and upper right in pencil "Frances W. Roosevelt 143" According to her obituary in the New York Times, Mrs. Roosevelt was the widow of President Theodore Roosevelt's grandson, Quentin. She taught art at C.W. Post College in New York, and during the 1940s, she was a courtroom sketch artist covering the Alger Hiss spy trial. Inscription on paper backing of frame reads "Roosevelt - painted by one of the women who married one of Eleanor + FDR's sons 1955." Housed in gilt painted frame and matted under glass.
