Very Rare Anastatic Declaration of Independence Broadside
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Printed by Robert P. Smith of Philadelphia in 1846 with ANASTATIC FAC-SIMILE placed in the lower left field. Presented with backing behind archival glass in a period gilt and gesso frame.

30 x 25 in.; DOA 49.5 x 37 in.

The short-lived anastatic duplicating process made for highly accurate printed reproductions before photomechanical technologies were capable of doing so. Fewer than ten of Smith's anastatic Declaration prints are known today. Christie's sold a similar, restored example in 2009 for $25,000.

Unrestored, but stabilized with paper backing, hairline splits throughout; folding creases; chipped, uneven edges; stains.

$10,000 - 15,000
