Lot Details & Additional Photographs

John de Mirjian was among the most successful photographs on Broadway in the 1920s. His photographs of society ladies and actresses often graced the pages of the New York Times. His nudes were highly regarded and quite distinct due to his use of flooding light and lack of shadows and were published in numerous magazines, including Art Lovers and Artists and Models. His career was cut short in a very dramatic way - he and "his half-sister" (actually a married actress) careened off the Jericho Turnpike on Long Island, she survived, he did not. See Dr. David S. Sheilds' excellent website, www.broadway.cas.sc.edu, for additional information on the artist.
