Illegible signature lower right, titled in the margin, the ship is shown under full sail flying a 32-star American flag, the U. S. maritime jack and a one-sided pennant bearing the barque's name. Presented in an antique wooden frame with gilt liner. The "Keystone" was captained by John D. Whidden of Marblehead, Massachusetts between 1866 and 1870. Her first voyage under Whidden carried Virginia tobacco to Bordeaux. The "Keystone" figured prominently in Whidden's memoir, OCEAN LIFE IN OLD SAILING SHIP DAYS. The "Keystone" was, in fact, his last wind powered command after steam came of age.
