While trained as an engineer, the artist's keen interest in cultural anthropology, adventure, and a visit to an exhibition another engineer's work, Hsiang Hong, convinced him to paint. Using his imagination and travel experiences in South America and Southeast Asia, he painted his "abstract images with a mystical, almost primitive feel celebrating the primitive and the wild." "The Taipei Times" article entitled "A Posthumous Look at the Life of Max Liu" referred to the artist as "the Picasso of Taiwan."

Examined out of the frame and no condition issues noted.
