American Chippendale Tiger Maple Chest on Chest

Connecticut or Rhode Island, late 18th century, tiger maple, with chestnut secondary wood, two part form, top with stepped applied cornice above five graduated lipped drawers; the base having applied waist molding over four graduated lipped drawers, raised on original ogee bracket feet. Top case width 36 in.

Old dry finish to surface. Top of case is dove-tailed.

Replaced brasses; rear returns and glue blocks likely replaced. The upper first and third drawer with patches on far left and right were previous bail and rosette were. 2 or 3 of the upper drawers have been refinished. The base second and third drawers are tight to move and the top third drawer is tight. The secondary wood is chestnut and the sides are wormy chestnut.
