Born in Brooklyn, Edda Heath studied at the New York School of Art, Pratt Institute, Adelphi College, and privately with William M. Chase, Arthur Dove, Robert Henri, and Frank DuMond. This painting was completed just six years before she moved to Carmel, CA in 1928.
