Variously penned to home by soldiers J. P. Thompson, A. W. Thompson and M. A. Williams, reading, in small part: "(S. C. Hospital, Petersburg, VA, 12/19/62)...Our camp was crowned with a signal victory the battle commenced at the dawn of day and raged until the hour of noon...I will send you an account of the Fredericksburg fight... (?, NC, 6/2/63)...so many are deserting and going home and they know it is death I can't bear the idea of men of my people deserting though I have no thought that they will for there is two much of the olde Revolution blood in the Williams & Thompson(s) for they are all Welsh... (Camp 26th S.C. Reg., 7/21/64)...my company is on the lines...the health of Army is very bad now..." (Camp 26th S.C. Regt, 7/21/64) ...the soldiers (are) sick very warm weather her(e) now it has been dry..."
