In its day, this collection would have been considered comprehensive by any well-bred American. It opens with George and Martha Washington; includes notable statesmen such as Clay, Calhoun, and Webster; Presidents Lincoln and Johnson next preface a group of 28 Union generals and military celebrities while Jefferson Davis and Mrs. Davis appear ahead of Generals Lee and Beauregard and Confederate envoys Mason and Slidell; the album next turns to British and French leaders, famous queens through the ages, and a run of literary figures. The collection closes with works of art and an artist's rendering of a completed Washington monument.

The spine has separated from the text and the front free endpaper is disbound, else a clean and crisp presentation. Overall very fine condition.
