Meiji period (1868-1912), both sides of this screen have immensely rich detail articulated in shell, mother-of-pearl, and bone along with carved wood, on the front two upper lacquer panels there are meticulously rendered dragon and phoenix in hanging flower baskets with maple leaves above, bottom registers with flowers and butterflies, four family mon crests carved into corners of lower register of the lattice pattern wooden border, back side of screen has a serene scene of inlaid birds fly among floating petals.

Very good condition; loss to the inlay and minor lifting to lacquer on front and back of the screen; wooden border on one back panel has lifted and cracked; general minor wear to edges.
