Acquired by the consignor from a Palm Beach estate.

This copy was painted by Paul Vincent, an artist with a studio in Paris during the mid-20th century who specialized in copying original works of art at the Musée du Louvre.

The original painting by Tiepolo, completed circa 1740, has an interesting provenance. The painting belonged to Federico Gentili di Giuseppe of Paris in the early 20th century, but upon his death, it passed through several hands before being purchased by Hermann Göring in 1941. In 1945 it was restituted by Allied troops to the French government and was on display in the Musée du Louvre until 1999, when it was restituted to the descendants of Federico Gentili di Giuseppe. They in turn sold the painting at auction in 2000 where it was bought by the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Some minor rubbing to frame.
