Qing dynasty (1644-1911), intricately carved black lacquer with cream and red coloring, decorated with an expansive scene of noblemen, scholars, and ladies in a guarded walled courtyard, above the scene are fans with landscape images and on sides and below are scholarly implements surrounded by a border of phoenixes and flowers, the reverse is decorated with a lush variety of flowering plants and trees and a myriad of birds, bands on the top and bottom display Chinese scholarly implements.
