Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th century, signed to underside of both, "Kutani sei kana zo," porcelain decorated in iron red and gilt with birds amidst flowering trees and plants, great detail paid to the birds' feathers, the top of the vases decorated with swirling stylized dragons chasing a flaming pearl and phoenixes with clouds, with original lids, comes together with wooden stands.
