From the Collection of Judy R. Allen, Greensboro, NC

Girl Dancing is perhaps Vonnoh's most impressionistic work and designed to be beautiful from every viewpoint. First modeled in 1897 alongside a group of idealized sculptures of young women, including Young Mother and Girl Reading, this sculpture received critical and popular success from the beginning. It shows much of the influence of Auguste Rodin and other contemporary French sculptors whom she had been introduced to while traveling through Europe in 1895. Examples of this bronze are in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY and the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA.
