Edward, David B. The History of Texas; or, The Emigrant's, Farmer's, and Politician's Guide to the Character, Climate, Soil and Productions of that Country: Geographically Arranged From Personal Observation and Experience. (Cincinnati: J. A. James & Co., 1836), 336 pages, plus a folding Map of Texas Containing the Latest Grants & Discoveries, with outline color, opening to 13.25 x 9 in. and facing the title page, two pages of advertising at the end, small octavo, dark green cloth, pastedown label on spine. Owner-inscribed on front free endpaper by Tim W. Hoxie, Boston. A Timothy Wright Hoxie (1818-1882) indeed lived and died in Boston. It is unknown if he ever visited or invested in Texas.

Detached boards and spine, the latter split horizontally below the label; large diagonal split in lower right section of the map; various degrees of scattered foxing throughout; the binding remains tight. An important book worthy of restoration.
