Lot Details & Additional Photographs
VIN 1E791738W; Mileage 79,500; 4.2 liter engine, automatic transmission.
In 1968 Jaguar changed the iconic Series 1 E-Types. In transitioning to a Series 2 model, 1,983 2+2 models were produced with some changes that resulted in an uncommon "1.5" model. Minor changes included removing the headlight covers, switching to Rocker style switches in the dash, removing the winged spinner knock-offs on the wheels in favor of a hexagonal nut, and a few other small cosmetic changes. Most importantly, the US versions were "de-tuned," removing the three SU carburetors, in favor of two Zenith-Stromberg units. This met EPA standards but resulted in a loss of horsepower from 265 to 246hp. This model is equipped with factory AC, very uncommon, although it is not operating. This vehicle has been modified with 2 SU carburetors, and the factory airbox removed in lieu of K&N air filters.
This example has been with the original owner since he purchased it in NYC in 1968. Its early years saw routine maintenance performed at the dealership in downtown Manhattan. As the car was given to the owner's son, so were the duties of maintaining and upkeep of the car. Minor repairs and changes have been made by a learned and meticulous owner with all recent major services being performed by a local English specialist shop. The car had a repaint in its original color, Willow Green, and the front seats were recovered many years ago. The transmission has been rebuilt and appears to have a fairly new exhaust. Many additional items, including the original airbox and miscellaneous parts are included.
