Professional appraisal available for review.

Purchased circa 1940 from Byrketta & Buckton, Ltd. of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by U.S. Foreign Service officer William Carter Burdett as a gift for his wife Elizabeth Burke Burdett and by descent to the consignor. Burdett was in Rio serving as U.S. Charge d'affaires to Brazil from 1939-1940. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he worked in South America as a mining engineer and was very knowledgeable about the beautiful aquamarines mined in Brazil. After his death in 1944, his wife gifted the ring to their daughter. Circa 1970, the daughter's husband commissioned Tiffany & Co. to match the aquamarine stone and make a companion piece, a pendant, (see Lot 54) as a gift for his wife, whom he first met in Rio while on a "Grand Tour" of Latin America with his family.
