English Chinoiserie Tall Case Clock by John Buffet, Colchester

Mid 18th century, time and strike brass movement, the dial's silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals encloses a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, applied scrolled brass spandrels; the walnut case with pine back, allover paint and gilt, the shaped waist door embellished with raised chinoiserie decoration; the arched hood door with glass side panels and faced with Doric half-columns.

Much of the collection was inherited from Dr. Turner's parents, Royal Navy Captain and Mrs. John Schomberg Hammill and great-grandparents, Admiral Sir Montague Edward Browning and Lady Ruth Boldero Browning.
