French Miniature Gilt Brass and Porcelain Carriage Clock

Late 19th century, Anglaise case, classical form with four Corinthian columns, the beveled glass top reveals an escapement, hinged handle above; the painted porcelain dial is marked JAS MUIRHEAD & SONS and painted with Roman numerals, blued steel hands indicate the time, both porcelain sides are painted with idealized courtship scenes; the back of the movement is numbered 893.

3 3/8 in. excluding handle.

From the Estate of the late Dr. Alison Mary Turner, Wake Forest, NC. Much of the collection was inherited from Dr. Turner's parents, Royal Navy Captain and Mrs. John Schomberg Hammill and great-grandparents, Admiral Sir Montague Edward Browning and Lady Ruth Boldero Browning.
