In 2000, Paladino designed a site-specific mosaic titled Ara Artis to complement the ancient altar Ara Pacis in Rome. Paladino's Ara Artis is a permanent installation alongside the monumental altar. Like Paladino's mosaic in Rome, his brilliant, three-dimensional mosaic offered here explores the interaction between light and space, viewer and object.
