Circa 1830-40, cherry, mahogany veneer, poplar secondary, upper projecting pull-out butler's desk with fall front opening to a divided interior with five drawers, supported by fully turned and veneered ionic columns, above three graduated cock beaded drawers, with paneled sides, on flush stepped base raised on suppressed ball feet.

By descent through the family of Maurice Hudson Thatcher of Kentucky (1870-1973).

Mr. Thatcher was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Butler County, KY. Trained as a lawyer, he served in numerous civic roles throughout Kentucky. He also was a member of the Isthmian Canal Commission and civil governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1910-1913. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for five terms, serving from 1923-1933. Following a successful law career in Washington, D.C., he was buried in his beloved Frankfort, KY.
