Born in Savannah, GA, Dale Kennington moved to Dothan, AL before her first birthday. She earned her art degree from the University of Alabama and later continued her studies at Auburn University. Kennington's reputation grew as a portrait painter which transitioned into a contemporary realist style, depicting scenes of life in her South. Her works are in numerous museum collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; Butler Institute of American Art, OH; and Cheekwood Museum of Art, Nashville, TN.
