Symphonion Eroica Three-Disc Music Box
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Made in Germany, circa 1895-1900, serial number 211082, plays three synchronized 13 5/8 in. discs simultaneously using six combs; the cabinet of mahogany and burled wood veneers, its top consisting of a collonade with urn supports over a stepped cornice, below is a panel with applied decoration, fluted and turned columns flank a beveled glass door protecting the discs, the whole rests on a waist carved with a half fan.

Included are two disc storage units as follows: the first is an elaborate cabinet matching the music box in size, construction, and period. It contains 61 three-disc sets, the music being primarily classical though mixed with some religious material and popular tunes of the day; the second unit is a smaller 20th century wooden disc cabinet of simple box-like form. Affixed to the door's interior is a typed list of 62 tunes that, less one set, seems to correspond with the 61 disc sets present.
