Bernard Myers was a senior tutor and professor at the Royal College of Art in London from 1961-1980. In 1968, he was invited to be a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi. It was in India that he was inspired to perfect a technique of burnishing oil pastels with an agate tool to achieve a luminous tempera like finish to his colorful and bold still lifes.

Myers' work is in numerous collections including the Carlisle City Art Gallery, the Contemporary Arts Society, Economist Newspapers, Graves Art Gallery, King Edward VII Fund for Hospitals, the National Maritime Museum, and the Tate Gallery.
