Born in Hampton, Virginia, Jones attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and later earned his BFA from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his private lessons, he taught at the College of William & Mary, the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the University of Virginia, and Hampton Roads Academy. His works are in the collections of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Chrysler Museum, and the High Museum.
