Eliza Greatorex was born in Ireland, but gained recognization for her New York and Colorado landscapes. She was one of the first two women elected to the National Academy of Design.

The pastoral landscape depicted in this painting is near Idlewild, the fourteen room Gothic "cottage" built by the author Nathaniel Parker Willis in 1846.

Tear to top edge and tear to lower right edge; adhesive discoloration to edges.
