The circa 1800 or earlier, a Japanese lacquered cabinet featuring mother-of-pearl inlays with a motif of roosters and flowers, with incised copper hinges and corner mounts, case interior with eight divided and decorated drawers, raised on a period Continental gilt and carved base that features rosettes to the corners, pierced skirt and tall tapered stop-fluted legs.

A perfect example of the Chinoiserie style, the fusion of East and West exhibited in this cabinet was first introduced in England and Europe during the 17th century. This exotic style incorporating decorative elements of Japanese, Chinese, and other Asian motifs and objects reached its zenith in the mid-18th century.

Wear and surface loss to top; doors project slightly but can close fully; expected gilt loss and wear to base.
