Tallis's Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
(London and New York: John Tallis and Company, 1851), folio (14.75 in.), three-quarter morocco over marbled boards, consisting of 83 maps engraved by John Rapkin with outline color, an engraved frontis with a map of Liverpool beneath a waterfront view, and an engraved title page; the front free endpaper inscribed "Henry R. Constable Norfolk 1854."

The set does not have an engraving of the Great Exhibition, but does have the Liverpool views; the "Overland Route to India" is not present and may or may not have been to begin with.

The front cover is worn with bumps and is nearly detached; the spine is lacking a section of leather (retained); internally clean with light age toning, however the text for South America is torn with considerable loss. Overall a good set of a popular atlas.
