Felipe Orlando was a post office employee before studying art with Victor Manuel in Havana. After a brief time in the Cuban Navy following the Cuban revolution, Orlando devoted himself fully to painting and teaching young children. This painting was likely completed around the time Orlando was featured in the 1944 exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan titled Modern Cuban Painters.
