Circa 1850, Caswell County, North Carolina, mahogany veneer, poplar and yellow pine secondary, two convex side-by-side glove drawers supporting a swivel rectangular ogee mirror, with distinctive tapered stiles and shaped crest, base with front white marble top above four graduated block front drawers, rounded corners, paneled sides, on ogee base, raised on distinctive bracket foot base.

From the Estate of Chalmers/Coleman Springfield Plantation. Family history states that these pieces were purchased for the Springfield Plantation, on River Road in Halifax County, Virginia. Springfield Plantation, built by Dabney Cosby for David and Sarah Chalmers, contains numerous examples of Thomas Day's architectural work as documented in the book Thomas Day: Master Craftsman and Free Man of Color, by Jo Ramsay Leimenstoll and Patricia M. Marshall.

Veneer chips and losses throughout especially to lower skirt; burn marks to upper left side panel, small wood loss to right front pad of foot; later mirror; missing several locks.
