Born in Hamburg, she emigrated to the United States in 1968 and settled in Chicago. A retrospective of her work was exhibited at the New York City Museum of Art & Design in 2005. Examples of her work are in numerous public collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
