After earning his MFA from the University of Mississippi in 1969, Dunlap was a professor of art for many years at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Now living in Washington, DC, he has exhibited extensively throughout his career and has works in numerous important public collections including the Asheville Art Museum, the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC, and the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC.
