This rare etching has only come across the auction block three times in the United States. It is a portrait of Peter Langan, famed British restaurateur and art collector who owned Odin's restaurant in London. Odin's, which is no longer open, was a popular meeting place for celebrities and artists such as David Hockney, who were known to exchange artwork for meals. Hockney completed various illustrations surrounding Odin's - some for menus - and this etching was the prototype for one menu cover. In addition to Odin's, Langan and actor Michael Caine opened the successful Langan's Brasserie in the Mayfair district of London.

The sheet edges have some toning and waviness; few faint smudges upper edge; minute crease left edge.
