Oil on canvas, signed at lower right within a fallen tree trunk, inscribed on the verso "Delphi Brook / early painted by / Dwight Williams / 1872," additional inscriptions on the stretcher bars, presented in a period gilt composition frame.

The son of a Methodist minister, Dwight Williams attended Cazenovia Seminary where he studied painting under John Calvin Perry. Williams became head of the seminary's art department in 1885. He later moved to Virginia, teaching painting at Norfolk College and then the National Park Seminary in Washington, D.C., before returning to New York in 1900. An avid outdoorsman, William's landscapes are among his best work.

Paintings by Williams are in numerous public collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Phillips Collection, and the Columbus Museum of Art.

Minor rubbing and cracking to frame; slight buckle to canvas; overall in good estate condition.
