Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 18th century, elegantly embroidered in graduated tones of rose, blue, and green embroidery of scrolling peony vines around a central large elaborate peony blossom within gold and red ruyi border, central section outlined by gold thread with blue and white key border along the edges.

Inherited by the consignor from her grandmother, Ruth Bartholomew Johlin of Nashville, Tennessee and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Johlin acquired many fine textiles throughout her world travels in the 1940s and 1950s.

Similar to the throne back cover sold at Christie's, Paris, June 11, 2014, lot 78.

A few areas with light staining to silk; some lifting of thread in gold thread border; some loosening of threads to two of the flowers; small threads remain along edges.
