Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Beverly McIver is currently the Esbenshade Professor of the Practice of Visual Arts at Duke University. In 2013, she was selected for the short list for the National Portrait Gallery's Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. And in 2017 she was awarded a yearlong fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.

McIver's work is in numerous public and private collections including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Weatherspoon Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Nasher Museum, the North Carolina Central University Museum of Art, The Crocker Art Museum, and many others.
