Circa 1790s, stamped brass alloy with applied shank, 36mm, the outer edge of the face reading LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT clockwise and encircling GW in the center. An aging index card accompanies the button and is inscribed, "This button found on the farm of Elias Musser McAlevys Fort Huntingdon Co. Pennsylvania. possibly 75 years ago. 1951." Included is a second, typed index card that traces the button's descent through the Musser family, suggesting it was found "around 1875." Such a button appears on page 391 of Alphaeus H. Albert's Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons, Bicentennial Edition, 1977. Albert suggests 6-10 specimens were known.

The metal has unnaturally polished surfaces with a light copper hue; the shank appears to have been broken and re-attached to the button with solder; the letters are somewhat weak as is the case with the other examples of this elusive button.
