American Hunter in a Western Landscape
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Circa 1880s, watercolor on paper, the subject displaying an odd mix of military and civilian attributes that make us wonder if he's after renegade Indians or a rabid mountain lion; his clothing looks like a quasi-uniform, especially as it has a second lieutenant's shoulder straps and an acorn hat cord, however, in contrast, our hero carries a civilian's single-barrel shotgun and a sportsman's haversack. Presented behind glass in an ornate gilt frame.

DOA 16 x 12.25 in.

Horizontal scratches across the subject; loss and re-paint to lower right corner of frame.
