This drum surfaced in Lenoir, Caldwell County, NC, which supplied companies to North Carolina's 20th, 22nd, 26th, 53rd, and 58th Regiments serving in the Army of Northern Virginia. At least two similar drums are in the North Carolina Museum of History, with a third example identified to the 32nd NC being shown on page 227 of Time-Life's Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy (Alexandria, 1996).

Scuffs and wear from use; substantial remnants of red paint on the hoops; two tacks missing heads; leather crazed; ropes and drum heads intact. Overall very good condition, especially considering the conditions in which it was likely used.
