These two works are from a series called Tragic Beauties, in which Barbara Abel photographed European mannequins from the turn of the 20th century that were stored in a Detroit warehouse. Abel was fascinated by the incorporation of elements such as human hair, glass eyes, and teeth made of denture material in an effort to create such lifelike figures.
