Oil on canvas with wax lining and BEVA liner, with artist's monogram (appears to be "TG" or "TGC") and dated 1852 to right of sitter's shoulder, presented in a period appropriate gilt frame with composition ornament.

Sight size 29.5 x 24.5 in.; Frame dimensions 36 x 40 in.

The young woman is depicted half-length, seated in a richly upholstered chair. Her status as a woman of means is further emphasized by the white gown with lace detail and the exotic paisley shawl draped just below her shoulders. Although unidentified, the artist was clearly accomplished in his technique.

Minor areas of spot re-touch, expertly restored and only visible under UV light.
