Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1930s, carved and painted wood, net weights for ballast.
Length 12.5 in.
This one of the few if not only swimming Burgess coot in original paint. Frank Carter, a Coinjock hunter, had a stand that included over 75 Burgess coot decoys. Net weights were used as ballast on the smaller decoys and most were overpainted. Possibly the finest Burgess coot extant.
Original paint with light gunning wear.
