Carl Kauba (Austrian/American, 1865-1922), Bronze Model of an Indian Chief

Patinated bronze, signed 'C. Kauba' and stamped 'GESCHÜTZT 5305' to the posterior coat, cast with a feathered headdress and rifle in one hand, striding forward on a polished agate base, retaining hand-inscribed antique arms and armor dealer card of Edwin (Ted) Gewirz.

Acquired by the consignor in 1980

The card indicates the piece was likely acquired in the 1980s from late historian Edwin "Ted" Gewirz (1927-2020). Ted had a passion for military history and was a founding member of the Potomac Arms Collectors Association as well as a member of the Company of Military Historians, Maryland Arms Collectors Association, and the American Society of Arms Collectors.

Good estate condition; some areas of rubbing to the patina.
