Ben Rouzie (1921-2016) made art all of his life. Prior to the 1960s, Ben produced paintings and drawings before moving on to carve hardwood bowls, boxes, and cutting boards.

Gradually he shifted focus to larger projects—furniture and sculpture in wood and mixed media. His work combined a keen eye for modernist design and an exuberant and sometimes caustic wit. Much of the wood for his sculptures was locally sourced felled hardwoods, such as black walnut, cherry, and maple.

His works have been displayed at The Southeast Center for the Arts and Artworks, among others. He was a member of Piedmont Craftsmen and a founding member of Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem. Ben and his wife, Mimi, were avid collectors of art and crafts of the region. This important collection offered today reflects that passion, with prints, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and more.
