The Important Winter Auction held on Saturday, December 5th, was anchored by several collections of Fine Art and Fine Jewelry, which categories showed very well.
Coucher de Soleil Sur La Riviere, a post-impressionist painting by French artist Henri Lebasque (1865-1937) brought $24,000. The painting Indian Brave by American artist Fritz Scholder (AZ 1937-2005), whose work is in the permanent collections of museums such as The National Gallery and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, sold for $17,000 - nearly six times its high estimate. A collotype by Pablo Picasso, L'Entreinte, also significantly exceeded its estimate, selling for $10,500.
Historical and source materials also brought competitive bidding: a sketch by artist Andrew Wyeth for his famous painting Cristina's World sold for $11,000. A set of correspondence to a close family friend from several members of the Kennedy family sold for $5,000 - more than twice its high estimate.
In the Fine Jewelry category, gold and precious gems continued to bring strong results. An Unmounted Round Brilliant Cut Diamond with Platinum and Diamond Mount brought $13,000, and a striking Wide 22KT Gold Cuff Bracelet by Jean Mahie sold for $10,500.
One of the best-selling lots in the auction was a never-used Puiforcat Royal 1st Standard Silver Flatware Service bought from the French company's flagship store in Paris. It sold for $29,000.
