Federal Period Coin Silver Sugar Urn with Cover

Christian Wiltberger (active in Philadelphia, PA, 1769-1851), circa 1800, hallmark to base in conforming shape. Fashioned in the fluted Neoclassical style with conforming foot, the removable cover with urn finial, decorative border with rosettes to shoulder is engraved and chased by hand, period bright-cut monogram "HG."

This sugar bowl and cover are almost identical to one purchased by Winterthur and added to their collections in 1956 (museum object number 1956.98.2).
